Cyklon Bhola

Bhola - a great cyclone that visited Eastern Pakistan (now Bangladesh) in 1970.

The most devastating cyclone from the past so far. He ran into the mouth of the Ganges on November 12, 1970 and caused about half a million deaths. The main reason for such a large number of victims was the increased water level, which almost flooded most of the islands in the Delta. Bhola was the seventh and at the same time the strongest of the tropical cyclones that raged over the Indian Ocean in 1970.

The indifferent attitude of the western part of the country to removing the aftermath of the cataclysm has also increased the tension between the west and the east, and to a large extent accelerated the outbreak of war, which ended up separating the territory of present Bangladesh from Pakistan.
