Günther Tamaschke


Günther Tamaschke (born February 26, 1896 in Berlin, October 15, 1959) - commandant of the German concentration camps Ravensbrück and Lichtenburg and SS-Standartenführer.

He participated in World War I, during which he received the Iron Cross of the First Class. Member of SS (No. 851) and NSDAP (No. 36978). On May 7, 1934, Tamaschke began serving in the Dachau camp, where he remained until April 1, 1936. On December 1, 1937, he was appointed commander of the Lichtenburg concentration camp, which was equated to December 1, 1938, when he was ordered to organize a new camp, Ravensbrück (KL). He was the commandant of the Ravensbrück during the construction period until August 31, 1939. In the following years, he was a junior officer and was temporarily removed from the SS. Bibliography
