Michal Korpal
Michał Stefan Korpal (born March 14, 1854 in Cracow, died March 31, 1915 in Pelhřimov) is a sculptor. He was the son of a stonemason and sculptor of Michael Adam (1863), the father of sculptor Alexander and painter Tadeusz.
At first he practiced at Edward Stehl's stonework, and in 1870-1873 he studied at the Cracow School of Fine Arts where he was a pupil of Marceli Guyski. In the years 1874-1880 he stayed in Lvov, and after his return to Cracow he worked in the Stehlik and Trembecki stone works, and then in the studio of Walery Gadomski.
He is the author of the group "Polonez time to start" on the facade of the Teatr im. Slowacki in Cracow, busts of Nicolaus Copernicus and Jan Kiliński in the Cracow magisterium, monument to Pope Pius IX in the Church of Sts. Peter and Paul in Cracow together with Walery Gadomski, a bust on Lubicz street 34, statues of Zygmunt August and Jan III Sobieski in Strzelecki Park. He is also the co-author of the first 45 sculptures in the Jordan Park with Alfred Daun. In addition, he is the author of numerous tombstones at the Rakowicki Cemetery, such as Christ at the Jordan's grave, Krakow's casket at the tomb of Adam Staszczyk, and the angel of the dead at Fabian's grave in 1889.
He was buried at the Cracow Rakowicki Cemetery in XXIb. Bibliography
