Test Queckenstedt

Queckenstedt's Queckenstedt test - a test of compression of the external jugular vein during lumbar puncture. If cerebrospinal fluid influx increases after compression (increases cerebrospinal fluid pressure) and falls immediately after stopping vein compression, this means that there is no obstruction in the vertebral canal. The introduction of this diagnostic test is tied to the name of Hans Heinrich Georg Queckenstedt, but the basis of the phenomenon was described by the British anatomist John Hilton in 1863.
