Battle of Megiddo (1918)


The Battle of Megiddo - an armed clash that took place between 19-21 September 1918. This battle was an important event during the Sinai-Palestinian campaign - the conquest of Palestine by British General Edmund Allenby during the First World War. General Allenby's troops joined a massed offensive, crossing from the west through Mount Carmel to the Jazreel Valley, where the Turkish troops were utterly destroyed. The Arabian insurgents took part in the battle. Allenby's actions were coordinated by Lieutenant Colonel T.E. Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia). The battle was a prelude to the defeat of the Ottoman Empire in the First World War.
