Imperial Chemical Industries


Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) - a British corporation, one of the largest chemical manufacturers in the world. The corporate headquarters are located in Slough, UK. ICI produces paints, food ingredients, polymers, electronic materials, flavors and condiments. It employs about 32 thousand. The company's turnover is £ 5.8 billion (2005 figures). ICI was founded in December 1926 by Brunner Mond & amp; What. Ltd., Nobel Enterprises Industries Ltd., United Alkali Company Ltd. and British Dyestuffs Corporation Ltd. In the interwar period, they produced chemicals, dyes, explosives, fertilizers and medicines. Imperial Chemical Industries competed in the world market with E. du Pont de Nemours and Company (DuPont) and IG Farben. In the first year of its existence the turnover of the corporation amounted to 27 million pounds sterling. By 1937, ICI also produced the "Sunbeam" motorcycles, previously produced by Nobel Enterprises Industries Ltd. The most famous brands of this company were Dulux and Hammerite. ICI took over the paint manufacturer Polifarb Pilawa in Pilawa.

On 1 January 2008, the Dutch company AkzoNobel officially took over ICI. On the Polish market this means a marriage with the paint manufacturer Nobiles, owned by AkzoNobel since 1996.
