Nikolai Table


Nikolajs Galdiņš (born 9 October 1902 in Riga, 5 October 1945 in Leningrad) is a Latvian military commander of the 3rd Battalion 42th Grenadier Regiment of the SS 19th SS Grenadier Division, then the 42nd Grenadier SS Regiment at the end of World War II . Curriculum vitae

July 12, 1919 he joined the newly formed Latvian army. In 1924 he graduated from the military academy and was assigned to the 4th Infantry Regiment in Wolmar. Then he served in the General Staff in Captain's degree. In 1938-1939 he was also an instructor at a military school in Riga. After the annexation of Latvia by the USSR in 1940 was not released from military service. He was assigned to the 195st Rifle Regiment in the 181st Rifle Division. When the German army occupied Latvia in 1941, it cooperated with Germany. In October 1942 he volunteered for the Latvian troops formed alongside the German army. In the summer of 1943 he became a commander of the 42nd Grenadier Regiment of the SS in the 19th SS Grenadier Division of the Waffen-Obersturmbannführer SS and in October he took command of the 3rd Battalion of the Regiment. From January 1944 he commanded the 42nd Grenadier Regiment of the SS. On January 25, 1945, he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. At the end of the war he was captured by the Soviet regime. On October 5, 1945, Leningrad was shot.

He was decorated with Iron Cross 1 and 2.
