Jean-François from La Rocque de Roberval


Jean-François de La Rocque de Roberval (born 1500, died 1560) is a French traveler.

In 1543, the settlers were to begin a permanent colonization of the North American continent by the French. The action on the St. Lawrence River ended in failure and in 1545 the colonists decided to leave the area.

Since then, the European colonization of Canada's territory has been stopped for forty years.

De Roberval died at the hands of the angry mob during the anti-Protestant riots as one of the first martyrs of the Huguenots. Bibliography Authoritative control (person):
