Karen Wynn Fonstad


Karen Wynn Fonstad (born April 18, 1945 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, as Karen Lea Wynn, March 11, 2005 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin) is an American cartographer. She created maps and descriptions for the most popular fantasy books.

She worked at the University of Oklahoma. On March 21, 1970, she married Toda Fonstad. They had two children: Dr. Mark Fonstada and Kristine (Kristi) Stingle. She died of breast cancer on March 11, 2005.

It was published in 1981 by Atlas of Middle-earth, which was re-released in 1991 in a supplemented and revised edition. He showed the geography and history of Middle-earth, including the description and geography of the places depicted in the Silmarillion, the Hobbit, and the Lord of the Rings.
