Lucjan Cylkowski (born 23 May 1907 in Cold Spring, died July 12, 1944 in Stutthof) - Polish harpist.
He was the son of Stanislaw, the owner of a small farm, and Marty of Makowski. In 1927 he graduated from the teacher's seminar in Kościerzyna. His work took place in Puck.
In 1930, he received his job at the Primary School No. 1 in Gdynia (now Secondary School of Scouts No 1). After completing the podharcmistrzowskiego course, he founded a scouting team with her, which became one of the better teams in Gdynia. Every year he organized camps that attracted young boys. In 1938 Lucjan Cylkowski became a harbinger and was appointed commander of the Hufa Gdynia for his merits.
He married Helena Madsen - Dunka. At the beginning of World War II, Cylkowski's wife fled with her daughters to Denmark, but Cylkowski remained in Poland to take care of the preparation of her scouts to train them in anti-aircraft defense and general assistance.
In 1940 he was appointed commandant of the Gray Troop Brigade in Gdynia. Lucjan's tasks included the communications organization Gdynia - Bydgoszcz, Gdynia - Warsaw, Gdynia - Stockholm. He provided very important information, such as the location of the Kriegsmarine base and the movements of the German ships.
In summer 1942, Cylkowski was arrested by the Gestapo. Despite inquiries and torture, he gave no information or information. He was sentenced to death, but as a result of the intervention of the Consul of Denmark, and because he was willing to cooperate with the occupying force, the sentence was invalidated.
The Germans trusted him and arranged his escape in the spring of 1943. Lucjan Cylkowski did not intend to undertake an agent's business, hiding in a hydroelectric plant in Bolszewo. Thanks to his warnings, several prominent members of the Gryf Pomeranian guerrillas escaped arrest during a liquidation operation launched by the Gdansk Gestapo on the night of May 3 and May 4, 1943. After the arrest of the secretary of the Military Organization of the Gryf Pomorski, documents were handed over to Cromkowski and Cylkowski Arrested and imprisoned in Stutthof concentration camp. The owner of the power plant was also arrested, who was released after the hearings. He left Bolshev to his family in the country, and returned after the war. Many neighbors believed that the arrests of Gryf Pomorski were a result of the cooperation of the departed owner of the Gestapo.
July 12, 1944 he was executed by hanging. Another prisoner of KL Stutthof, Lech Duszyński recalled: "About noon Cylkowski was called before the" Schreibstube ", ie the camp office. With a bad forethought, I went out to see what was going on. Before "Schreibstube" a group of about 10 prisoners in uniforms of Soviet soldiers stood. Among them I saw Cylkowski. He stood pale and very changed. From afar he gave me signs. The gesture of the neck signaled the gallows. [...] I went back to work and worked. Suddenly I was summoned to the ambulatory, where the more important prisoners of the Rehir were gathered. Everyone stood by the window. I walked to the window and saw a group of Gestapo people from Gdansk, circling the gallows. At the elevation, with a necklace on the neck, was the harpist and commander of the Gray Cylkowski. He stood up with his hands tied back. Moved by this sight I was about to leave my observation post. But I forced myself to stay in place. Hoppe, Meyer and Dr. Heidl were as usual around the gallows. The rope was in the hands of Rapportführer Chemnitz. The verdict was read by one of the Gestapo. After reading the sentence, shortly before his death, Cylkowski shouted - "Long live Poland". [...] After falling down the ramp, when the body of the convict stopped shivering, Dr. Heidl came to the hanging. He took his arm just above his wrist to see his heartbeat. The corpse of the gallows was removed from the sign. They were moved to the crematorium, where we heard the dry sound of the shot. " Bibliography
