The geothermal level - the value of the factor determining how many meters in the ground the temperature rises by 1 ° C. The reciprocal of the geothermal gradient.

The value of the geothermal field depends on the depth of the igneous bodies, the thermal conductivity of the rocks, the tectonics, the formation of the surface of the earth, the location of the volcanic, radioactive and geochemical processes as well as some hydrogeological phenomena. The average value of the global geothermal field is 33 m / 1 ° C. Its value changes not only in the horizontal but also in the vertical section.

In Poland, geothermal has a high degree of differentiation, depending on geological structure, and especially on halokinetic structures, characterized by high thermal conductivity. In the depth range of 200-2500 m it varies from 10 to 110 m / 1 ° C. In the north-eastern part of the country the value of the degree increases to about 100 m / 1 ° C, which is due to the relatively shallow appearance of the crystalline substrate. The lowest values, of the order of 20 m / 1 ° C, are observed in the Sudetes (Cieplice Śląskie-Zdrój, Ladek-Zdrój).

In the world, extreme values were recorded in Larderello near Florence: 1.5 m and in the Bahamas: 180.2 m.

The phenomenon of heat flow from the interior of the Earth is used in the construction of geothermal heat plants, as a natural source of thermal energy.
