Franciszek Chocieszyński


Franciszek Chocieszyński (born 28 January 1848 in Grodzisk Wielkopolski, died 9 February 1899) is a Polish journalist, printer and publisher. Curriculum vitae

He was the son of Antoni and Veronica of Głowicz. He was educated at junior high school in Grodzisk and Poznan. He has been practicing in the bookshop and compositions of E. Bote and G. Bock in Poznań, and also acquainted with the printing arts at A. Schmaedicke company in Grodzisk. In 1871 he participated in the Prussian-French War. He worked at the Napoleon Kamienski printing house in Poznań, then went on to further practice; He was in Leipzig, New York, Chicago, Paris.

After returning to Poznań, he established his own printing house (with Karol Handtke). The factory was initially located on Podgórna Street; After leaving his partner, Chocieszynski moved to Wodna Street, expanded his business and expanded his business to sell his own publications. He mainly published popular, cheap books, since 1880 to supply libraries of the Society of People's Readings. From 1882 he wrote the "Wielkopolanin", initially twice a week, then as a diary; The editor of "Wielkopolanina", which soon became the most popular among Wielkopolska subscribers, was Stanislaw Wegner. Chocieszyński's publications were published by the "Nowiny Literackie" and apiary "Pasieka" as well as the "Tygodnik Nowieści" series (later called "The Bibliotheque of Novels"). In most of these initiatives, the publisher supported Wegner, who after the death of Chocieszynski in 1899 took over the company and ran it for another twenty years.
