SSD (Radiotherapy)
Source Skin Source (SSD) - In radiotherapy (especially teleradiotherapy), the distance from the source of the ionizing radiation to the point of entry of the beam into the irradiated area (usually the skin of the patient). Depending on the irradiation technique, the SSD distance varies. In SSD, this distance is constant and is usually 100 cm. In isocentric technique, this distance is variable, depending on the thickness of the tissues located between the source and the irradiated area. Special techniques (eg TBI) use SSD distances that are much larger than 100 cm in order to obtain a larger irradiance field. Bibliography
