Tomisaku Kawasaki
Dr. Kawasaki (center) at the 8th International Symposium on Kawasaki Disease (2005) Tomisaku Kawasaki (Japanese: 川 崎 富 作, Kawasaki Tomisaku, born 1925 in Tokyo) is a Japanese pediatrician. His name is associated with the disease he described with Fumio Kousaki in 1967 - Kawasaki disease.
He was born in Tokyo in 1925 as the youngest of seven siblings. At the request of his parents he studied medicine. After graduating from the Chiba University School of Medicine, he began his specialty in pediatrics. He then went to work at Red Cross Hospital in Hiroo, where he remained for the next 40 years. For 17 years he headed the Kawasaki Disease Research Center. He lectures at Kurume University and in the USA. He was awarded the Japan Pediatric Society Award. Selected works
