Dichogamia, dichogamia - the production of one male and female gametes at different times. This is one of the mechanisms to prevent unfavorable self-fertilization. There are two types of dichogamy:
Dichogodes can be complete when the differences in maturation of male and female gametes in one individual are so great that they virtually exclude the possibility of self-fertilization, or partial when those terms partially overlap and for some time there is a possibility of self-fertilization. For example, in many species of prickly plants, the stamens are beginning to ripen at the end of maturation.
Protandria and protogonynia are present in some hermaphroditic animals. Bibliography
