MOS Technology 6507
Atari 2600 Atari 1050 floppy drive
MOS Technology 6507 - 8-bit processor from MOS Technology. It was a degraded version of the 6502.
In order to reduce costs, MOS reduced the number of address pins from 16 to 13. This resulted in a reduction in the 6507 address space to 8 KB, but still in 1975 the number was relatively large. This move made it possible to place the system in a smaller 6502, 28-pin casing. Short 6507 address bus has prevented external interrupt handling. This processor has found its widespread use only in the Atari 2600 video game console and as a floppy disk controller on the Atari 810 and 1050 models. Atari 2600 processor capacity was limited by the cartridge slot design, resulting in only 4 KB of memory. While the 6502 was widely used, the semiconductor memory prices began to decline gradually in the 1980s, until the savings of 6507 were lost.
