Boris Tomaszewski

Boris W. Tomaszewski (born 1890, died 1957) is a Russian literary theorist, a member of the Moscow Linguistic Circle. He dealt with almost exclusively the theory of poetry. He was the patron of many works in this field, both detailed and synthetic. His early texts, especially the book Russkoi Stichos. Mietrika (1923) and a collection of essays about the stich (1929), are typical examples of application to specific problems of the formal method. From that period of his activity Tomaszewski came up with his textbook of literary theory (published in Poland by the Circle of Student Polonists of Poznan University in 1935). His work on the theory of poetry has led the author throughout his life. There are two books devoted to it: Stilistika i stichosłożenije (1959) and Stich i jazyk (1959). The most important area of Tomaszewski's work was the work of Pushkin. He wrote a series of essays, he was an excellent expert and publisher of the poet's writings. In both practical and theoretical terms, he was more interested in writing Pisatiel and the kniga. Oczerk tiekstologii (1928).
