Ekrem Akurgal


Ekrem Akurgal (born 30 March 1911 in Haifa, died November 1, 2002 in Izmir) is a Turkish archaeologist.

Since 1949, a professor at the University of Ankara. He was an expert in the art of Hittite and Urbana, an early explorer of Greek art and her association with Anatolia. He has conducted numerous archaeological works in Smyrna, Eretria, Fokai, Synopa. He was the long-time Chief Commissioner of the Turkish Antiquities Office and author of the repeatedly-published work "Ancient Civilization and Runis of Turkey", published in 1969.
