Emblem of the Azores
The Azores coat shows on a red banded shield with 9 gold stars, in a silver field with a blue hawk with red armor and language. Over the shield in the jewel of half a blue eagle covered with 9 gold stars. Blue-silver Labry. Bearers are two black bulls with gold rings and chains, holding the two banners of the Order of the Knights of Christ and of the Holy Spirit. Below the ribbon with the inscription Antes morrer livres que em paz sujeitos (Polish: It is better to die in a free country than to live in annexation.)
The coat of arms was adopted in 1979.
