Battle of Contreras
The Battle of Contreras, also known as the Battle of Paderez, took place on the night of August 19-20, 1847, between the United States and Mexico during the Mexican-American War.
Americans, marching to Mexico City from the Puebla side, came across a strongly fortified position around the fortress of El Penon and Lake Texuco. By the Lake of Chalco and Xochimilco, from the south, they encountered Santa Anna's troops at Contreras.
Half of the Mexican troops were forced by the American army led by General Winfield Scott to retreat to Churubusco, where the next day was the Battle of Churubusco, while the rest took refuge in the walls of the capital and the nearby Chapultepec fortress. / p>
