Individual steam locomotives - designed for passenger trains, characterized by a diameter of the drive wheels of about 1500-1800 mm, maximum speed 80-110km / h. They were usually equipped with a front axle for stable running. They usually had 3 driving axes, although some structures (such as Ot1) had these axes.

In the Polish system of signs, passenger locomotives were marked with the letters "O" (from: "person"), in the Prussian system - from the letter "P" (eg P8), in German - series numbers (BR) 20 to 39.
