Jonas Bendorius


Jonas Bendorius (born 15 August 1889 in Skaisčiai near Lubov, died June 27, 1954 in Palanga) is a Lithuanian composer, conductor and teacher.

After completing elementary school in 1899 he studied music at a private school in Visztynie. He continued his studies at the Warsaw Musical Institute under the supervision of M. Surzinski. In 1910, together with Albinas Iešmanta, Mikhail Petrauskas 'Birutė' opera was exhibited in Marijampole. In 1912 he was permanently attached to Mariampole, taught at the local gymnasium "Žiburio", where he and Albinas Iešmanta co-founded the company "Gabija", whose head was in the years 1913-20.

After 1918 he taught at the Kaunas Music School, operating since 1933 as the Kaunas Conservatory.

After the occupation of Vilnius by Lithuania in 1940, Konradas Kaveckas founded the Vilnius music school, which he ran until 1945. In the years 1945-1949 he headed the Vilnius Conservatory.
