Józef Śleboda


Józef Śleboda, religious name Ryszard (born 1938, died 2005) - Polish opposition activist NSZZ Solidarność, organizer of the Mass for Homeland in the war.

He was ordained priest in 1967. He has been an active opposition activist since the second half of the seventies, (among others, he cooperated with the Free Trade Unions in Bytom and Gdansk). He supported Solidarity.

On 15 December 1981 he was interned in Bytom, where he sat in dungeons, in icy water, and then was imprisoned in Strzelce for a week. Moved to Krosno in the summer of 1982. Here he applied for the establishment of the Krosno Radio, as he pointed out in a public statement of Jerzy Urban's State Government spokesman. Fr. Richard was attracted by a lot of people. Here he met with opposition activists coming from different cities. In 1985, as a result of operations and administrative actions, Father Ryszard was transferred to Nowa Sól, and the ruler of the spiritual opposition leadership in Krosno, under the leadership of Solidarność Podkarpackie, was succeeded by Fr. Bogusław Piechut. In Nowa Sól he helped distribute underground newspapers and was the organizer of the monthly Mass for Homeland.
