In Grodno graduated from high school and in 1944 began studies at the Pedagogical Institute; One year later, she came with her family to Poland. She undertook studies at the Pedagogical University of Gdańsk (Faculty of Geography and Natural Sciences). In 1954, she married Ludwik Tressenberg, a forester in Borecka Forest and settled in Masuria, in Kutach (Pozezdrze municipality). She worked in a rural school as a teacher, then as a librarian (manager of the Gromadzki Library and Rural Cultural Center in Kutach, then manager of the Public Library District and a branch of the Municipal Public Library).
She led a social activity, being an intermediary between the migrant population and displaced indigenous Mazurians. Interest in local culture focused on Mazurian fairy tales. The first article devoted to this topic was published in "Głos Olsztyńskiego" in September 1959, and in subsequent years published in "Głos" and "Warmia and Mazury". In Kutach, she founded the Chamber of Polish Mementos of Masuria (1963). For his work for the development of local culture, he received many awards and decorations. Award of the Presidium of the Provincial National Council in Olsztyn (1973), Silver Cross of Merit, "Merit for Warmia and Masuria" badge and "Meritorious Cultural Activist" badge.
In 2000, she published a collection of 24 folk tales from Mazur Mazovian Tales; The second edition, expanded with two more fairy tales, appeared after the death of Jadwiga Tressenberg in the spring of 2005. She also co-authored, among others. with Irena Kwinto, fairy tales (1957) and New fairy tales (1969), and in the collective work The Force of Life (1973) announced her memories.
In recognition of many years of cultural activity, the name Jadwiga Tressenberg - still in her life (2000) - was given to the elementary school in Pozezdrze. The retired teacher died at the end of 2004 and was buried in Kutach. Bibliography Authoritative control (person):
