Carlo de Simone


Carlo de Simone (born November 22, 1932 in Rome), Italian linguist. Until 1998 he lectured at the University of Tübingen as a professor of comparative linguistics. Curriculum vitae

In 1950 he graduated from the University of Rome with a degree in comparative linguistics and classical archeology, finishing in 1955 with the work on inscriptions in the Latin language (dissertation title: Le iscrizioni messapiche: cronologia e fonetismo). Then, as a scholar of the Deutsche Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD), in 1955-1956, he studied at the University of Tübingen, under the direction of Hans Krahe, as his assistant worked in 1961-1964. In November 1964, he took a habilitation at the Faculty of Philosophy of this university, working titled " Die griechischen Entlehnungen im Etruskischen. From 1972 to 1973 he was a professor of comparative linguistics (Indo-European Studies) at the University of Vienna, and in 1975 - 1980 at the Perugia University (glottologia). Finally, in 1980 he was appointed Professor of Comparative Linguistics at the University of Tübingen, where he worked until his retirement in 1988. Carlo de Simone, in his research, studied mainly the languages ​​of ancient Italy, including numerous articles on Etruscan inscriptions in the Studi etruschi. Major publications
