Chryseobacterium greenlandensis

Chryseobacterium greenlandensis - a species of very small bacteria (ultramicrobians) of the type Bacteroidetes. Its discovery in the Greenland icebreaks was announced in June 2008 by researchers from Pennsylvania State University. According to scientists, the bacteria are capable of surviving under extreme conditions of low temperatures, high pressures, reduced oxygen levels and minimal amounts of food. The specimens survived over 120,000 years in Greenland ice at a depth of 3,000 meters. Bibliography
