Waves

Water wave abrasion; flat waves and waves produced by ducks.

Wave superposition - summing up several independent waveforms.

For small wave amplitudes, the superposition theory is that the resulting wave, which is the result of the simultaneous overlap of several waveforms, is the sum of component waves.

This law does not occur in nonlinear centers of significant wave intensities. At this point the resultant wave is not usually the sum of the component waves, and it is not possible to talk about wave superposition, though overlapping is still possible.
