Brotherhood of St. John
The Society of St. John - a non-existent community of priests and brothers founded by the members of the Society of St. John. Pius X in 1997. In 1997, Scranton's bishop, James Timlin, authorized the founding of the Society of St. John. Shortly thereafter, the first accusations were made to the leading representatives of the Society of St. John, in the community of the fraternity, the abuse of young boys. The Bishop decided to remove Fr. Carlos Urrutigoity, who was accused of lewd deeds during his activities in the friar's fraternity in Argentina.
In November 2004, the then diocesan bishop, Joseph F. Martino, decided to dissolve the Society of St. John.
