Friedrich Opitz


Friedrich Opitz (born August 7, 1898, February 26, 1948) is a Nazi criminal, member of the concentration camp of Majdanek and Ravensbrück, SS-Hauptsturmführer.

He was the first manager of SS-Bekleidungswerke (SS Garment Factory), one of the two largest sub-camps of Majdanek. They were created in the summer of 1941 at the former Lublin Aircraft Plant. In March 1942 Josef Oberhauser replaced SS-Bekleidungswerke Opitza. Then Opitz served in the Ravensbrück camp complex, where he ran a factory where forced prisoners worked. He was known for his cruelty.

After the end of the war he was arrested by the Allies and sentenced in the second trial of the Ravensbrück crew before the British Military Tribunal in Hamburg. Friedrich was sentenced to death for hanging and imprisoned in Hameln prison at the end of February 1948 for his crimes.
