Innovative Regions of Europe

Innovating Regions in Europe (IRE) is a network initiated by the European Commission in 1996 to support regions in the implementation of innovation policy, the exchange of experiences between regions, including in particular the building of regional innovation strategies. .

All IRE network members define innovation as a development priority and integrate it into a regional development program. As a result, the network is open to any region in Europe that concentrates its efforts on enhancing innovation capacity for business development. Members of the IRE network are consortia of regional institutions, development agencies, business environment institutions, universities and research centers.

The network now covers 235 regions from 30 countries, not only from the European Union but also from Iceland, Norway and Switzerland.

Currently, fourteen of the 16 Polish regions are members of the IRE Network. Only Lubuskie and Świętokrzyskie do not participate in the IRE network.
