Muhammad II ibn Ahmad

Muhammad II ibn Ahmad (Abu al-Gharanik) (875) was the eighth emir of the Aghlabid dynasty in Ifrikii in the years 864-875.

He took over the throne after his uncle Zijadacie Allahu II (863-864), having inherited a stable and prosperous state from his predecessors. As a esthetician in wine and hunting, he felt good when he was giving in to the extreme and manifestations of glamor. His kingdom conquered Malta (870), and the expeditions to the Italian mainland were enough to force the tribute from Pope John VIII.

At the end of his rule, the caravan of pilgrims from Mecca brought plague to Ifrikiya - and this famine led to a serious depopulation and a weakening of the kingdom.

His successor was his brother Ibrahim II ibn Ahmad (875-902).
