Antoni Ćwikliński


Antoni Ćwikliński (born 16 January 1834 in Cherniejewo, died 14 April 1898 in Mogilno), Polish Roman Catholic priest, pastor and dean of Mogilno, social activist.

He was the son of Stanislaw (the blacksmith) and Jozef of the Pluciński. He studied at the Gymnasium in Trzemeszno, then studied in seminaries in Poznan and Gniezno, accepting priests in 1857. He worked initially as a vicar in Mogilno, from where in 1860 he was transferred to the parish in Gościeszyn near Żnin. He served pastoral care for over a quarter of a century. In 1886 he returned to Mogilno and became the parish priest of St. Jakub, and from 1896 he was also the dean of the knight. <Ćwiklinski was a supporter of the national movement. During the January Uprising he expelled the Prussian authorities, who for the dissemination of the pamphlet Jubilee for Wielkopolska sentenced him in May 1864 to two months in prison. The president of the Poznan province pressed for a consul in Gniezno, demanding that he be dismissed for his actions, referred to as "criminal and inciting". In 1873, the parish priest of Mieczysław Ledóchowski's accession to the archbishop was protesting against the repressive so-called. May, and a year later signed a letter to the Metropolitan Chapter expressing solidarity in connection with the election of the vicar.

He also took part in local social work. In 1894, in Mogilno, he founded the Catholic Society of Polish Workers. He also contributed to the founding of the Catholic Teachers' Association, the Catholic Apostolate Society, the Society of Gymnastics "Sokół". He chaired the district committee of the. Karol Marcinkowski in Mogilno, also participating in general meetings of the Society in Poznań. In May 1894 he took part in the work of the General Committee of Catholic II in Poznan. For many years he worked on an extensive work - The Perpetual Calendar, or Life of Saints, for each day of the year, which appeared in four volumes after his death (1898-1902), by the Poznan Printing House and Bookstore. As the ruler of the parish, Ćwiklinski worked to improve the state of sacred objects of Mogilna. He initiated the restoration of the local monastery church, the general renovation of the church of Sts. Clement, as well as restoration work in his own parish church of St. James, in which he founded a new altar. He also rebuilt the belfry and reconstructed the rectory.

He died in April 1898 in Mogilno, where he was buried there, in the crypt of the monastery church. Bibliography
