Badis ibn al-Mansur

Badis ibn Mansur (ا ن ن ن )

Badis took over the throne of Al-Mansur's father and Bulbulgin (984-995) as viceroy of Ifrikiji. Due to the fighting for power among the Zirids, he remained very close to the Fatimids of Egypt, his sovereigns. His rights to power were challenged by his grandfather, Zawi ibn Ziri, who eventually was expelled to Andalusia, where he founded the Zidon dynasty in Granada (1012-1090).

The challenge faced by his uncle, Hammada ibn Buluggin, was a more serious one, who, as governor of Algeria, became stronger and established his own residence in Bujumbai. Eventually, in 1014 the Hammadians broke free of the Zirids. In the resulting battle, the Zirydies received no help from the Fatimids and had to recognize the independence of the detached dynasty.

His successor was his son, Al-Muizz ibn Badis (1016-1062).
