GEGL

GEGL (Generic Graphics Library) - a graphics library used for graphics processing in computer programs. One of the most anticipated options is to support more than eight bits per channel of color depth, 16 and 32 bpc. It has a convenient API and is designed to require as few dependencies as possible.

In the year 2000 it was planned that the GEGL library would be used in GIMP. GIMP since version 2.6 (after enabling the appropriate option) can use it for some operations. Replaces the GDK library, which supports up to 8 bits per channel.
