Ichud

Union of Zionists of Democrats "Ichud" (Hebrew Unity) - Jewish Zionist Party active in Poland in the years 1944-1950.

She was the only Jewish liberal political party active in postwar Poland. Its main purpose was to build a Jewish state in Palestine, which was openly supported by the communist authorities. Ichud, in turn, accepted the Interim Government of National Unity and supported the Democratic Bloc in the 1946 referendum and in the 1947 Legislative Sejm elections. In the second half of the 1940s, it was the largest Jewish party in Poland. In 1947 it had about 8,000 members. The representatives of the Ichudu were part of the Central Committee of Polish Jews.

The party ran around 70 kibbutz in Poland, in which future expatriates were preparing to go to Palestine. Ichud and other Zionist parties organized illegal trips to these lands. In 1950, the party was formally dissolved by the communist authorities, and most of its members, for fear of repression, left for Israel. Bibliography
