Gene Expression
Gene Expression - a process in which genetic information contained in a gene is read and written to its products that are proteins or various forms of RNA.
The course of this process differs a bit between bacteria and eukaryotes. In bacteria, genes are usually organized into groups of genes called operons (eg, lactose operon) that are regulated as a group and transcribed into several mRNA genes.
In eukaryotes, regulation and transcription into mRNA refers to a single gene. This process occurs in several stages (eukaryotes, in simplification, for protein coding):
RNA expression is in stages similar to protein. There is no translation. Not for every kind of non-information-RNA includes all stages. Initiation, transport, splicing, modifications, molecular self-organization, function and degradation occur.
Gene expression regulation is a complex multifactorial process. At each stage, expression of the gene can be regulated by different mechanisms (eg, by gene regulatory sequences, DNA binding proteins, DNA methylation, or non-coding RNA resulting in, for example, lysis). Gene expression depends on the type of cell, the body's development phase, the metabolic / physiological condition of the cell.
