HE 0107-5240

HE0107-5240 - A star in the constellation of the Phoenix, about 36,000 light-years from Earth, one of the oldest known stars.

Its age is about 13 billion years, so it was less than a billion years after the Big Bang. This star is one of the oldest populations in the population, but it contains elements heavier than hydrogen and helium, so it is not a representative of the III population. Its metallicity is -5.2 ± 0.2, which corresponds to 1/200 000 metal content in the Sun.

HE0107-5240 is an exceptionally small, massive star for the early universe. This is the reason why we can now observe it - the massive stars have already ceased to exist.
