Leonid Wasilievich Wasiliev, Russian Леонид Васильевич Васильев (born 1891 in Ostrowskaj, Russia) was a Russian military officer (colonel), commander of the volunteer Cossack cavalry squadron 813 Infantry Division and 3 Cossack mixed cavalry brigades and then the Athanian Cossack Guards in the Cossack State during World War II.
He graduated from the Nicolaeusian Cavalry School. From 1914 he served in the regiment of the Ataman cavalry regiment. He participated in the First World War. In 1917, he was promoted to the degree of podsauła. In 1918 he joined the Cossack troops of the White Army. He was in command of the 1st Battalion of the Ataman Regiment of the Cavalry. After evacuating from Crimea to Gallipoli in November 1920, he was on Lemnos Island, where he was promoted to the rank of colonel on January 11, 1921. In the same year he settled in Yugoslavia. In 1923 he moved to Paris, where he worked. as a worker and taxi driver. During the Second World War he cooperated with Germans. In 1942 he joined the Wehrmacht, contributing to the formation of Cossack troops in the service of the German army. From February to October 1943 he was the commander of a volunteer Cossack cavalry squadron in the German 813 Infantry Division. In June 1944, he took command of the 3rd Cossack mixed cavalry brigade, and in early 1945 was a Major General - an Athanian Cossack regiment in the Cossack State. At the same time he was elected deputy atamana marching Cossacks. In May 1945, with the other Cossacks, he surrendered to the British and was imprisoned in the Lienz camp. On behalf of the Cossack commanders, he negotiated with the British officers. May 29 in Judenburg was released to the Soviets who arrested him and transported him to Moscow. After the trial was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment. He was in a gulag in Chelyabinsk oblast where he died on April 9, 1948.
