Botanical Society of America


The Botanical Society of America is an association of professional and amateur botanists, scientists, teachers and students present in more than 80 countries around the world. It was founded in 1893, based on the Botanical Association of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. The purpose of this organization is to promote botany. The executive body is the Executive Committee supported by the Council. Pamela Soltis of the University of Florida, 2007-2008 is Stephen G. Weller of the University of California at Irvine. The council includes, among others. student representatives, editors and representatives of all thematic and regional sections. The association is divided into 16 thematic sections: briological and lichenological, development and construction, ecological, applied botany, genetic, historical, mycological, paleobotanic, phycological, physiological, phytochemical, pteridological, systematic, teaching and tropical biology.
