David Harel


David Harel

David Harel (born 1950 in London) is an Israeli IT lecturer at the Weizmann Institute in Israel. He is an author of works on modal logic, theory of computation and software engineering, and author of the book "The essence of computer science. "Algorithmics: The Spirit of Computing."

In the 1980s, he created the Statechart language, then integrated into the UML modeling paradigm.

Currently his interests focus on the study of visual languages, graphical representations, systems biology and perfumery communication. He also works on the computerized model of Caenorhabditis elegans, which were the first multicellular organisms with fully sequenced genomes.

Harel was a Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science at the Weizmann Institute for seven years. He is a member of IEEE and ACM. Authoritative control (person):
