Dwarka

The mythical city of Dwaraka Dwarka, Dwaraka (Sanskrit: द्वारका, tr. Dvārakā) is a semi-mythical city located on the peninsula of Kathijawar on the Arabian Sea. Mentioned in ancient texts such as Mahabharata, Hariwamsa, Bhagavatapurana, Skandapurana. The name is derived from the Sanskrit word dwar, meaning door or gate. Considered one of the oldest cities in India. According to legend, it was founded by Krishna, raised for the inhabitants of Mathura, who ordered Krishna to be moved to Dwarka, but was absorbed by the sea seven days after his death.

It is now presumed that in myths there may be some historical truth. Close to the modern city of Dwarka discovered the ruins of old buildings under the seabed. Archaeological research is ongoing.
