Factor B

Factor B - component of alternative complement activation pathway. Factor B circulates in the blood as a single polypeptide chain consisting of 739 amino acid residues. Activation of the alternative route is cleaved by the complement factor D of the non-catalytic Ba chain (amino terminal fragment) and the catalytic subunit Bb (carboxy terminal fragment). The cut is in the Arg-Lis (234/235 polypeptide chain) position. Bb subunit is an enzyme serine protease that binds to C3b component to form alternative C3 conversion. Human Complement Factor B (CFB) gene is found on chromosome 6 in the MHC (Major Histocompatibility Complex).
