Ortenberg's altar master - an anonymous painter in the first quarter of the 15th century. Represents the late style of fine painting in late-Gothic period, worked in Mainz and Hessen. Creator of the Altar of Ortenberg.
As with many medieval artists about Ortenberg's altar master, we know little. It is best known for its triptych for the church in Ortenberg near Darmstadt. It is characterized by a specific tone oscillating around the olive tone, lyricism, sophisticated poses and court atmosphere. This work distinguishes the middle part of the two iconographic themes connected with Mary - the Family of Mary and Sacra Conversazione. On the side wings of Christ's childhood - the Christmas scene and the Adoration of the Magi. Made about 1430. Family of Mary, central part of the Altar of Ortenberg - about 1430, Darmstadt, Hessisches Landesmuseum Bibliography
