Second Viennese arbitration
Romania's territory as a result of arbitration
Second Vienna arbitration - International arbitration held on 30 August 1940 in Vienna by Germany and Italy (in the role of arbitrators) on the Hungarian-Romanian territorial dispute over areas lost by Hungary to Romania after the First World War. The dispute was resolved by ordering a change of border in favor of Hungary.
In the implementation of the arbitration, Romania has withdrawn the northern part of Transylvania and part of Marmaris and Krishna with a total area of 43 104 km², inhabited by about 2.5 million people.
After World War II, all these areas returned to Romania in accordance with the provisions of the 1947 Paris Peace.
