Thankmar
Thankmar (born 900-906, died 28 July 938 at Eresburg Castle) - German prince of the Ludolfing dynasty.
Thankmar was the only son of the first marriage of King Henry of Germany to Hatheburg. After the death of his father, the half-brother of Thankmar Otton I. took over. In 937, Count Merseburg Siegfried died. Thankmar was counting on the fall after him, because the deceased was his mother's cousin. Otton, however, passed on his succession to Geron. Then Thankmar raised up a rebellion against the king in an alliance with Prince Franconian Eberhard and Wichman Elder.
Thankmar got the Belecke Castle near Warstein. However, Wichmann was soon reconciled to Otton I and Thankmar was besieged by Margrave Hermann Billung at Eresburg Castle. After his capture, Thankmar was killed in the castle chapel. Eberhard of Frankfurt soon surrendered to Otto I, who initially condemned him to banishment, but he soon pardoned him and gave him good.
