cystoids


Cystoid († Cystoidea) - a group of extinct echinoderms, living from Ordovician to Devonian (fran).

The bladders were characterized by spherical or elongated armor made of numerous irregularly arranged tiles. At the top there was a mouth that could be surrounded by shoulders. Just below the top was an anthill. The armor was usually fixed to the ground with a stem. These were only marine organisms, leading to a bentonized, sedentary lifestyle. Bibliography
