European Neighborhood Day

The day is celebrated in more than 30 European countries, including 27 from the EU and also in Canada. This is the largest community holiday in Europe, sponsored by the European Commission and supported by the Committee of the Regions. In 2008, Neighborhood Day was included in the celebration of the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue.

In 2007, 7 million people from over 700 cities and organizations from 28 countries participated in the celebration, and in 2008 - 8 million people from 800 cities and organizations across Europe.

In the celebrations, since 2007, there are also a dozen cities from Poland, including Gdańsk, Katowice, Łódź, Poznań, Warsaw, Wisla and Wroclaw. / p>

On this day there are festivals, contests and games. The idea that was born in Paris in 1999 (the "Districts Without Indifference") campaign is becoming increasingly popular in Europe. Once a year, residents are encouraged to meet their neighbors, to talk quietly, to get to know each other better, to have a home baked.

Organizers - municipalities hope that the joint celebration of the European Neighborhood Day marks the beginning of authentic and lasting relationships and openness to others.

The official 2010 celebration took place on May 28th. Bibliography
