He grew up in a large peasant family. In 1898 he undertook studies at the seminary teacher's seminar, which he graduated in 1902. For several years he worked in elementary schools. In 1906 he took up his studies at the Głuchów teacher's institute. After graduating in 1909 he taught in schools, also worked as an educational inspector. Between 1934 and 1937 he worked at the Institute of Linguistics at the BSRR. He spent the last years of his life in the village of Slobada near Połock and in Połock. Creation

Since 1902 he has been printing articles in Russian-language newspapers. The first Belarusian poem was published in 1909 in Our Niwa. Later, his works were printed: Sawieckaja Belaruś, Poejja and other newspapers. The first volume of poetry, Zaranka, was published in 1924. In subsequent years he published 4 volumes of poetry, as well as a selection of poems (1950). He also wrote three volumes of poetry for children.

In 1930 he translated into Belarusian novel Fyodor Dostoyevsky Poor People.
