National School of Mines of Paris


The École nationale supérieure des mines de Paris (or simply Mines Paris) was founded on March 19, 1783 under the ordinance of King Louis XVI to educate the administrators of the royal mines. The school is one of the most prestigious technical universities in France. Mines Paris is part of the Institut des sciences et technologies de Paris - Paris Institute of Science and Technology (ParisTech).

At the time of founding the school, mines were a technological venture, but also problems related to the safety of miners and economic governance, as well as geopolitical issues. The education paths at the School had different origins so that the university was transformed into an interdisciplinary unit over time.
