Significant numbers

Significant digits, value digits - decimal digits of the measured physical quantity, starting from the first non-zero digit to the last digit whose value does not change within the accepted confidence interval.

Example: The voltage is determined by 0 , 001 & # xA0; 023 & # xA0; 41 & # xA0; V , {\ displaystyle 0,001 \ 023 \ 41 \ V, \;}

The accuracy of the measurement is ± 0 , 000 & # xA0; 003 & # xA0; V {\displaystyle \pm 0,000\ 003\ V} .

So we know that the measured voltage is in the confidence interval ( 0 , 001 & # xA0; 020 & # xA0; 41 & # xA0; V ; 0 , 001 & # xA0; 026 & # xA0; 41 & # xA0; V ) {\ displaystyle (0,001 \ 020 \ 41 \ V; 0,001 \ 026 \ 41 \ V) \;}

So we have three significant figures: 0 , 00 1 & # xA0; 02 & # xA0; V {\displaystyle 0,00{\color {Red}1\ 02}\ V\;} .
